About Biomimicry Granada

Biomimicry Granada was formed in 2016 when Theresa Millard taught a course on applied biomimicry in an old storefront in Granada, Spain. Many of the participants had already been juggling the issues around sustainability in their heads; these talks and workshops were what it took to push us into taking action. We joined together in a team, the only requirement being the desire to change the world, and from then on we have learned, taught, worked, debated and investigated together. Today we are involved in a number of different projects. One of Biomimicry Granada's most important tasks is to keep sharing the lessons and philosophy of biomimicry with different sorts of professionals: designers, architects, engineers and anyone interested in gaining new perspectives. We teach courses in biomimicry, we work with design students to pose their problem-statements in natural terms, we prepare workshops to capture public interest and we create content for online learning. On the other hand, Biomimicry Granada doesn't limit it's activities to promoting sustainability through education; we strive to get out and get our hands dirty in real applications on a local and national level. Our team members all have different backgrounds and interests, which has turned into an almost endless source of ideas; each of us proposes those projects which inspire them, and we lean on each other for support in carrying them out. We take on challenges in recycling as well as reducing energy and material inputs. We apply the biomimicry tool-set to create spaces, fight pests, minimize the heat island effect and find innovative uses for materials, especially through upcycling. At Biomimicry Granada we believe in the power of cooperation. We have a long history of working both with other organizations and with students of biomimicry, whom we often welcome as interns. If you wish to collaborate with Biomimicry Granada, do not hesitate in contacting us.
