BioscanR, an official Qualcomm Tricorder XPRIZE team, is developing a device that monitors several vital signs to inform early detection and diagnosis.
Team BioscanR is a collection of scientists, visionaries and entrepreneurs with experience in taking concepts from idea to reality.
The team was conceived by Tracy Ingram, a medical-technology expert, who sought a solution to a misdiagnosis that forced his mother into bed rest for two years. As the XPRIZE turned its attention to medical diagnosis, Mr. Ingram saw an opportunity to put bioinformatics and diagnostic medicine together.
As Team BioscanR continued to develop, the team realized they could go beyond diagnosis and into health-predictions with the addition of other sensors supporting neurofeedback, neural networks and physiological algorithms. A simple device, based on the Tricorder of Star Trek fame, could then understand an individual's health as it gets better or worse, provide doctors with better information for healthcare solutions and improve care in both urban hospitals and rural clinics.
