The BioSmart Initiative revolves around the creation and commercialisation of biochar in impoverished regions of Africa, specifically Kenya and Zanzibar. We designed bespoke burning furnaces at the University of Exeter, turning organic agricultural waste into biochar under pyrolysis. Together with our partners, we strive to provide women in Kadzinuni, Kenya with the best opportunity to sustainably produce an alternative, cleaner fuel source and sell biochar at local markets at a profit. We aim to offer our friends a sense of empowerment, maintain job security and exercise environmental sustainability on a local scale.
