Biozentrum, University of Basel

The Biozentrum of the University of Basel is one of the leading life sciences institutes in the world. Its primary focus is on fundamental molecular and biomedical research and teaching. 30 interdisciplinary research groups with staff from more than 40 countries explore how molecules and cells create life, spanning the scale from atom to organism and from the physics of life to the dynamics of multicellular systems. Accordingly, the questions they tackle are very diverse. Founded in 1971, the Biozentrum has been the birth place of many groundbreaking discoveries in biology and medicine, spawning several Nobel Laureates. One of the Biozentrum's top priorities is to train and inspire the next generation of scientists. Undergraduates are integrated into an active research environment from the start of their academic career and gain first-hand experience of life as a scientist. PhD students and postdocs benefit from the Biozentrum’s scientific resources and intensive, individual mentoring and coaching.
