About Bipolar Disorder Label: Doctoral Research Project
Hi, I am Andrea Miller, a doctoral candidate working on my dissertation titled, Personal experiences of clinicians when diagnosing bipolar disorder: A Qualitative Inquiry. This is a qualitative study, researching the experiences of clinicians working with clients who have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and the impact that stigma, labels, and misdiagnoses have on their decision-making process when diagnosing. After eligibility has been confirmed with the participants, the researcher will go over the informed consent process in order to cover all necessary information regarding participant rights and confidentiality and provide the incentive of a $25 Visa gift card. After the informed consent is completed, a brief 1.5-hour face to face or video interview will be conducted and audio recorded between the researcher and the participant. When the interview is completed the researcher will transcribe the interview and identify codes and themes across all interviews to determine the results of the study. Inclusion criteria: • Live within the United States • Have a master’s degree in counseling or a related field (including psychology, social work, or marriage and family therapy) • Licensed according to the specifications for your state and respective profession (LPC, LCPC, LCSW, etc.) • Have a minimum of three years of experience working face to face with clients • Have experience working with clients who have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder • If interviewing via teleconference, have access to a computer that can download software to complete the interview • If interviewing via teleconference, have access to a private/confidential and quiet area free from distractions such as TV, animals, people in the room, or loud noises throughout the duration of the interview • Not have a personal relationship with the researcher If interested in participating and meet the inclusion criteria, please contact me via LinkedIn, amiller94@capellauniversity.edu, or 213-973-2167
