BiT-BDU SEED Center

Bahir Dar Institute of Technology (BiT) at, one of the Institutes in Bahir Dar University (BDU), is working with the Technical University of Munich (TUM) on “Sustainable Energies, Entrepreneurship and Development” (SEED) center targeting on an off-grid rural community in Ethiopia. Dangeshita, a rural village about 90kms far away from the Bahir Dar has been selected to implement the TUM-BiT-SEED initiated the renewable driven project. The aim of the project is to improve the living standard of the community by applying appropriate technology with a new approach, by setting up a living lab. The living lab, established for research purposes is used by the selected village so as to create rural entrepreneurship. So far, the living lab has been built as well as the construction of irrigation infrastructure. The intended project, in its first phase, can irrigate up to 10 hectares of land with the design capacity of discharging 10 liters/second liters per second and groundwater potential of 30 liters/second.
