The Bitcoin ETF PIE Fund (the Fund) is a New Zealand based PIE fund. The Fund allows investors easy access to getting exposure to the performance of bitcoin, alongside the tax benefits associated with PIE funds.
Investments are through trusted NZ platforms within a PIE fund, which is the same structure as most other managed funds and KiwiSaver schemes. Investing through the Bitcoin ETF PIE Fund removes the need to use a digital wallet. Also the Fund eliminates the need to do a tax return - reflecting PIE tax is a final tax (meaning far less administration hassles)
The Bitcoin ETF PIE Fund is taxed in accordance with the Fair Dividend Rate (FDR) methodology. This means the taxable income is set at 5% per annum, meaning that an investor on a 28% PIR rate will pay 1.4% in tax in any given year. In contrast, where NZ tax payers invest directly in bitcoin they typically pay tax on their total return including realised capital gains.
Trusted and regulated - The Bitcoin ETF PIE Fund is a registered managed investment fund in New Zealand. The Bitcoin ETF PIE Fund only invests in regulated listed overseas funds that hold their underlying bitcoin assets in cold storage with institutional grade security. Raise Investment Limited and FundRock NZ Limited don't hold the Fund's assets - as these are held by a regulated NZ custodian.
FundRock NZ Limited (FundRock NZ) is the issuer and manager of the fund. FundRock is licensed as a "manager of a registered scheme" under the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013. Raise Investments Limited is the investment manager for the Bitcoin ETF PIE Fund.
