Black Excellence Group

Black Excellence Group is a culturally specific (black) community organization anchored in Portland, Oregon that is dedicated to serving historically underserved black students. Black Excellence Group is owned and operated by black staff. Our amazing team is made up of 90% black professionals... former educators, advocates, coaches, doctors, home health workers, community leaders, and mental health therapists. Our phenomenal team is culturally reflective of the exceptional black students we serve – we staff a wonderful mix of ethnic minority, gender/identity diversity, faith diversity, immigrant background, as well trauma informed and trained professionals on staff. We have lived experience and passion that makes us uniquely qualified to invest in and support our precious black students. We serve historically underserved black students from PreK through Middle School through a variety of programming culturally affirming curriculum and activities. Our engagement opportunities and supports establish a positive racial identity, strong connections, and deliver positive student outcomes that transform the student experience. Our school year focused Black Excellence Group programming leads 30 weeks of black affinity small groups through a structured 5 module curriculum that intentionally pours into the students in a weekly small group play-based format that takes the students through our BE affirmational truths that they Belong, are Valued, Loved, Able, and Excellent.
