Black Mental Matters is a collaborative effort of mental health experts, wellness advocates and health professionals committed to raise the awareness of mental health in communities of color and marginalized communities.
Mission:
The mission of Black Mental Matters is to address the mental health disparities in the Black community by providing advocacy and awareness through programming and resources. Black Mental Matters provides a “Voice” to groups and individuals within the Black community in need of mental health resources who are underserved and under-represented.
Our objectives are to:
Implement and dispatch a Rapid Response Team to work with schools who have experienced a death by suicide.
Address the gap between the number of culturally competent mental health professionals and the rising epidemic of African Americans with mental health issues.
Organize and facilitate peer advocacy groups.
Provide/identify self-care resources for Black mental health professionals servicing underserved communities.
Provide education on the impact of generational trauma, racism, slavery, social injustice and discrimination on mental health in the Black community.
