Le Bleu du Ciel photography center

Le Bleu du ciel is a 1901 association created on the initiative of Gilles Verneret and supported by the City of Lyon, the Regional Council and the French Ministry of Culture in 2000, which from the outset has been dedicated to the presentation of photography oriented towards documentary vision. This documentary approach to the image lies at the crossroads of the transversal disciplines of sociology, history, architecture, urban planning and anthropology, all of which are measured against the yardstick of poetic visions in a world that never ceases to produce images. This photography focuses on the notion of representation and sampling as “windows” onto reality, which, with the help of multi-disciplinary sciences, allow us to reflect on the socio-cultural issues of our societies. These questions and answers, marked by the subjectivity of the artist who has become, in spite of himself, a societal witness to an era, attempt to reflect a consistent and inspired understanding of the world through art. In 2012, Bleu du ciel moved into a 200m2 space on the slopes of the Croix-Rousse, with a breathtaking view of the Lyon metropolis. The space has been given the opportunity to open up to a wider public, developing alongside exhibitions cultural mediation and meetings aimed at new audiences trained in current readings of contemporary photography.
