After beginning life as a constituted community group in 2012, Blue Box Belper became a charity in May 2018. The aims of the original group were to build the capacity for activities for children and young people on the Parks Estate, hosted from the original Blue Box building. However, a fire in August 2014 resulted in the demolition of the original ‘Blue Box’ in 2015.
Following the demolition of the original Blue Box, we spent time consulting residents about the community needs of the Parks Estate. Following this research and the organising of some initial community activities, the Blue Box Belper charity was formed and began to develop plans for a new Community Centre. It became clear that a multi-functional new community facility was needed that served the needs of the whole community.
The good news is that progress is being made, and we have now received planning permission for the new building and are currently raising funds to make it a reality.
