The Emera Blue Nose Marathon began with a dream – that Halifax, Nova Scotia should have its own annual marathon. Realizing that there were many races around the world, we came up with a unique idea. Our marathon would be part of a weekend of events promoting and celebrating healthy living and active lifestyles.
As well, we would encourage everyone in our community and beyond to get involved as a volunteer, sponsor, spectator, or participant, be it as a runner, walker, or Nordic walker.
Now more than 19 years later, the Blue Nose Marathon continues to be the signature event of the Organization occurring on Victoria weekend each year.
There is an Active Living Expo that span two days with 70 vendors and more than 80 booths.
More than 60 local charities raise more than half a million dollars annually through the Giv'er Charity Challenge.
More than 1,400 dedicated volunteers support the Blue Nose annually, ensuring a safe, lively and fun experience for all participants.
The Blue Nose Marathon also manages and develops other events including the Valley Harvest Marathon (thanksgiving weekend), The Night Owl and the Popsicle Run that align with its mission.
A community-minded organization, Blue Nose has developed environmental stewardship programs that reduce waste, increase recycling and encourage alternative transportation.
