Blue Roots Carbon

Coastal habitats offer essential ecosystem services globally, of which are heavily relied on by not only dependent marine species, but also coastal communities. These habitats offer vital breeding grounds and nurseries for species, mitigate against erosion, offer shoreline stability, flood control, storm protection, filtration of pollutants and creation of aquaculture sites to name a few services of many. One service, arguably of which is most important in today’s climate, is carbon sequestration. Coastal ecosystems are amongst the most effective carbon sequesters globally, more specifically – mangrove forests.
