"Dad, your generation created this problem. You better fix it." This quote by the daughter of legendary investor John Doerr (Kleiner Perkins) includes two of our guiding motivations: we created this problem, and for the sake of our children, we need to solve it. Given that climate change is the challenge of our lifetime, we only have the option to go all in, to concentrate passion, money, talent, ingenuity and effort on climate solutions. Our take is: if we can show that saving the planet and making sound investment decisions (make money...) are not mutually exclusive - quite the contrary - then more money will flow into the sector, more talent will move there, and a positively reinforcing cycle will be the result. Our focus is saving the planet, and our vehicle is investment ROI, with the catalyst being operational support for the entrepreneurs. It must be a concerted effort - together for a better planet. Basically, we are trying to replicate what happened in Silicon Valley over the last 50 years - but for the climate. We invest in truly impactful entrepreneurs and their companies and help them grow their impact exponentially, all from the perspective of private equity (with a hint of venture capital).
