The American Legion Blue Sky Post 426 is based in Montana and operates as the Legion's first-of-its kind virtual post. We have members from across the country .
The benefit of having a virtual post is that veterans can attend our meetings and join the conversation from anywhere in the world at any time. They don't have to get in a car and drive to their local lodge to participate in our meetings. This saves time, is more sustainable, and allows us to access a wide variety of servicemembers to include some who may be unable to leave their homes or participate otherwise.
Our post has been in existence since October 2022. It was started by a generous donation and the kindness of Dr. Sue Sisley, MD to allow us to use her address and location for mail and any necessary in-person meetings. Dr. Sue Sisley, MD should be considered the patron saint of any veteran suffering from PTSD and chronic pain. She has been working tirelessly for over a decade to research alternative therapies for veterans to address many of the issues veterans suffer from their service to the nation.
The focus of our post is to educate and encourage the Veterans Administration and the Dept. of Defense to research and provide access to plant-based medicines for veterans. We focus mainly on psychedelics and cannabis medicines and our membership includes some of the most renowned doctors, researchers, practitioners and patients in the world.
Noting that it is always the family who suffers the most when 'their veteran' is experiencing PTSD and chronic pain from the trauma they have endured in uniform, we are also opening up a Family Auxiliary.
In one short year, we have managed to get national approval for a resolution that was adopted at the American Legion national agenda to encourage the VA to research psychedelics for PTSD...and it has worked as this research is under way. We are now driving the VA to use Opioid Relief funds to support increased research into psychedelics and cannabis.
