About Institute of Nuclear Techniques Budapest University of Technology and Economics
The Institute of Nuclear Techniques (NTI) of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) is the leading organization in nuclear training in Hungary, since the startup of the Hungarian nuclear energy program (1970s). NTI is the second largest nuclear research institution in Hungary, with very significant scientific output in fields as Monte Carlo calculations, thermal-hydraulics/CFD analysis, radiochemistry, Gen IV reactor research and development, fusion research and medical physics. The Institute operates a small reactor facility, which is equipped with various laboratories. The Training Reactor, which started operation in 1971 and has 100 kW nominal thermal power, is the scene of numerous reactor and radiation related exercises for undergraduate and graduate students and serves as a neutron and gamma radiation source for research. The staff of the Institute have different types of qualifications as Independent Technical Experts in the Nuclear Field from the Hungarian Chamber of Engineers, such as reactor physics, thermal-hydraulics, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, radiation protection, proliferation resistance and transport of radioactive and nuclear material. The aim of the Institute is to contribute to the sustainable development and safe use of nuclear energy and to participate in international research in the field of nuclear science.
