Bolan Mining Enterprises (BME) is a joint venture between the Government of Balochistan (GoB) and Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), each with a 50 percent working interest. BME was formed through a joint venture agreement signed on June 1, 1974 PPL was designated as operator under the agreement.
Barite Operation Khuzdar:
GoB granted a mining lease spread over 316 acres for exploration of barite in Khuzdar, hosting proven reserves of 5 million tons and probable 50-100 million tons. BME is the largest Barite producer in Pakistan and meets 90 percent of barite requirement of the local Oil & Gas E&P companies.
Iron Ore Projects Nokkundi:
BME also holds two iron mining licenses, in the northwest of Nokkundi, Balochistan.These two MLs hold about 50 million tons of iron ore.
ML-Iron ore (4) (Chigendik): BME initiated phased-wise exploratory strategy to explore the mineral potential of economic value in the ML area. 639 meters of exploratory drilling was conducted; however, the next phase of geophysical exploration is being planned.
ML-Iron ore (5) (Pachinkoh): Mining operations are in progress to advance iron ore production from multiple areas in Pachinkoh. In order to further strengthen the Iron ore portfolio, a feasibility study is also be started soon. As a pre-requisite of the feasibility study; 2,000 meters of diamond core drilling were conducted for shallow-bearing iron ore horizons. Currently, another 6,000 meters of drilling is in progress.
Barite-Lead-Zinc Project Khuzdar
An exploration license for lead and zinc, covering an area of 93,507.63 acres, west of Khuzdar was granted to BME in March 2008. Detailed feasibility study has been completed through renowned international mining consultant. Subsequently, initiation of tendering for EPCC contract involving procurement, installation & commissioning of processing facilities and mine development as per best industry norms will be undertaken. Commercial production is expected to commence in 2026-27.
