Boots on the Ground Alberta (BOTGAB) provides 24/7 caring, compassionate, confidential Peer Support to First Responders & Military personnel across Alberta, including civilian employees. BOTGAB does not turn any callers away from our helpline! BOTGAB is currently working on future plans to provide in-person peer support services in select locations. Boots on the Ground Alberta is the first provincial division of the original Boots on the Ground (BOTG) organization, providing confidential peer support for First Responders by First Responders, which started in 2016 by retired Ontario police officer, Dave McLennan. Dave was passionate about the impact that exposure to trauma was having on police officers and other First Responders, and believed he could bring together a group of dedicated volunteers to help make a difference. An initial team of police officers worked for over 2 years to develop service planning, training, and procedures to provide safe, secure, confidential support to First Responders. This bloomed into Boots on the Ground, which grew into a large team of dedicated volunteers across both Boots on the Ground organizations in Ontario and Alberta. Boots On The Ground Alberta was awarded to Mo Shaukat, a serving and dedicated Law Enforcement Officer and Military Reservist. Mo, like Dave, is passionate about providing first responders across Alberta with an avenue to talk with somebody that understands, not merely by education, but through lived experience. Mo handpicked a team of dedicated, serving First Responders and civilians who continue to work together to grow BOTGAB, which officially launched in September 2023. Each peer support team member has received peer support & suicide prevention training, and are oriented to the procedures and protocols established by the BOTG Steering Committee. Boots On The Ground Alberta is a non-profit organization completely run and staffed by volunteers. We’re here to be your first call, when you’re ready!
