Department of Mechanical Engineering BITS-Pilani, Hyderabad Campus, India

The Department of Mechanical Engineering started its journey in the year 2008 with programs namely. B.E Mechanical Engineering and Ph.D. In the following year 2009, the department received its first research grant. The first batch of B. E. Mechanical graduated in 2011. Also, in the same year, higher degree programs namely, M. E. Thermal and M.E. Design started and subsequently, in the year of 2012, B.E. Manufacturing Engineering started. The first Ph.D. student graduated in the year 2014. Gradually over the course of time, several faculty members joined and the number of both undergraduate and postgraduate students increased several times. Currently, it is one of the largest departments with a total of 36 faculty members consisting of 1 Senior Professor, 6 Professors, 14 Associate Professors, 14 Assistant professors and 1 adjunct. From its very inception, the Department of Mechanical Engineering has been striving to develop itself into a hallmark of excellence in education and research in consonance with the contemporary and future needs of India. The total number of research projects undertaken by the faculty members during the last five years is 58 of worth more than 14 crores. Presently, the Department has been ranked 300-350 as per the 2023 QS World Rankings in the field of Mechanical Engineering. The combined record of its past and present faculty and students along with the alumni spread across the world is awe-inspiring.
