About Brain-Heart Interconnectome (BHI)

Brain and heart conditions are leading causes of disease and death in Canada, with a lasting impact on patients and their families. The brain and heart are also highly interconnected, share common risk factors, and commonly co-occur. Yet, the brain and heart have been historically studied separately. The Brain-Heart Interconnectome is a ground-breaking interdisciplinary research program aimed at accelerating the prevention, detection, treatment, and care of brain-heart disorders, using a transdisciplinary approach to research. Our program integrates Indigenous ways of knowing and doing, equity, diversity and inclusion practices, and patient and community perspectives to improve brain-heart health for all. The Brain-Heart Interconnectome is made possible through a Canada First Research Excellence Fund (CFREF).
