Breaking the Silence

'Breaking the Silence' is a global campaign to banish the myths, taboos and stigma around menstruation that exist in different cultures, making the life-giving phenomenon be accompanied with psychological trauma and ill effects on education, dignity, development and the quality of life among girls and women. With operations in 10 states in India, it is based in Bangalore, Karnataka and Imphal, Manipur. It works in close partnership with local NGOs and government and focuses on educating girls and women on menstrual hygiene management and the biology of menstruation and correlation to their health and dignity. So far the initiative has educated 7000 girls and women, 100 medical practitioners, 150 teachers and non-teaching staff, 150 journalists, 150 bullet bikers and biking clubs on menstrual hygiene management and building leadership- champions and ambassadors of change.
