BREED HKU

BREED HKU is The University of Hong Kong's first ever bio-robotics organization. At BREED, our aim is to draw inspiration from biological systems in nature and design efficient robots that advance prime engineering research. We initiate projects in the field of bio-robotics and create opportunities for students to have hands-on experience in building robots, supervised and guided by experts from HKU. The foundation of BREED is the VAYU Project that began in HKU in 2015, where a group of dedicated engineers set the goal of developing the world's fastest swimming robotic fish. In 2020, they broke the world record. Our team is now proud to hold the official Guinness World Record for the world's fastest swim by a robotic fish: a record broken not just once, but twice, by our very own team at BREED. Our fish has achieved the feat of 22.92 seconds for a 50m swim - faster than the fastest swimming human man. The BREED team is also the proud winner of the HKIE Innovation Grand Prize 2021, HKU's Engineering InnoShow Award 2020, and InnoSpark 2021.
