Breið þróunarfélag

Due to changes and new premises in the fishing industry, many fishing communities must rethink and adapt. Akranes is one of the most extensive example of this development in relation to population, number of jobs and size of the area. In looking towards the future, Brim ltd. and the municipality of Akranes decided to join forces and created Breið þróunarfélag for further development of the area. The overall vision and scope of the project is what makes it unique where innovation, job creation, scientific research and technological development are under the same umbrella of ideas. With environmental work, sustainability, and social challenges at the forefront the main objective of the project is that all school levels and ages of the municipality work together to strengthen creative thinking and innovation in the area. The key to the region's success is that all decisions made fall within the sustainability goals.
