About Bridges to Adelphi Program
Visit Our Brochure: http://operations.adelphi.edu/wp-content/blogs.dir/990/files/2015/10/Bridges-to-Adelphi-College-Autism-Program.pdf If you’re a student who has autism spectrum disorder, a nonverbal learning disability, or problems with executive functioning or socialization, you may feel anxious about the many differences between high school and college. The Bridges to Adelphi Program offers individualized comprehensive academic, social and vocational services that are designed to make that transition easier. This fee-based program offers regularly scheduled meetings to help with executive functioning and time management issues, problem-solving skills, and a wide variety of social opportunities. As a participant in Bridges to Adelphi, you’ll meet twice a week with your academic coach and learning strategist. Together, you’ll develop an individualized plan to address the challenges all college students face. Your coach and strategist will work with you one-on-one to reduce procrastination and anxiety and improve time management, organizational, problem-solving and social skills. Vocational Support Services Each Bridges to Adelphi student is offered the opportunity to work with a vocational coach to identify areas of interests and strengths related to a career. Students will have access to vocational testing applications, assistance with résumé writing and job interview skills, and various on or off-campus job and internship opportunities that best fit the students. Social Support Services Peer mentors are volunteer undergraduate students who serve as a friend and role model to students enrolled in the Bridges Program. Peer mentors are a vital aspect to Bridges because they help create a smooth transition for students and encourage them to become active participants in the Adelphi community by introducing them to clubs and other on-campus initiatives. The peer mentor relationship also allows the students to continue to build on their interpersonal skills.
