93% of secondary school students, across the UK, attend state schools. Yet, at UoB, we account for just 60.1% of the intake.
Coming to a top university from a state school education can be quite daunting and, more often than not, it can be difficult to find people with life experiences that are similar to your own - sometimes leading to a feeling of alienation.
This group wants to help break down the divide between state and private schools and ensure that students from disadvantaged educational backgrounds have the same positive experience at UoB.
This group was created in response for the expressed need to voice the experiences and opinions of state schools (in the UK and internationally) that have come to UoB and feel that they have done so through educational disadvantage.
GROUP AIMS:
(1) To offer students from state school backgrounds a platform where they can share experiences, opinions, concerns and useful social/educational resources
(2) A place to build a social community for students that have come to UoB from state schools
(3) To provide a platform for students from state schools to express their voices and campaign on the issues they believe in
