Museum of Broken Relationships

Museum of Broken Relationships is both a physical and virtual public space dedicated to preserving and sharing the personal stories of heartbreak and emotional transformation from individuals around the world. Founded in 2006 by artists Olinka Vištica and Dražen Grubišić, the museum originated as an intimate art project inspired by their own experiences, focusing on the symbolic objects left behind after the end of relationships. What began as a traveling exhibition has since expanded globally, having visited over 65 cities worldwide. In 2010, the museum established its first permanent location in Zagreb, Croatia, solidifying its presence as a cultural institution. The museum now offers a unique opportunity for individuals to reflect on the universal themes of love, loss, and healing through a diverse collection of objects contributed by people from all walks of life. In addition to the physical exhibits, the museum has expanded its reach with a virtual platform, allowing for global participation and engagement. Visitors can contribute their own stories and objects, fostering a deeper, more inclusive connection across cultures and borders. In 2011, the museum was awarded the Kenneth Hudson Award for European Museum of the Year, for Europe's most innovative museum. This accolade acknowledged the museum's unique concept and its ability to engage audiences by presenting intimate, personal histories as part of a broader cultural dialogue. Most recently, the museum has opened a permanent location in Chiang Mai, Thailand, marking a new milestone in its global expansion and commitment to offering a meaningful space for emotional expression and cultural dialogue.
