Behind This Wall was founded by Alex Harris in 2008 as a web-blog and event platform. With a background in bars and a passion for music, Alex, a dedicated record collector, saw a natural connection between the high-fidelity ethos of music production and crafting exceptional drinks. This vision aligned to create immersive, holistic environments where people could enjoy both sound and flavour in equal measure.
After running successful pop-up events and club nights that combined custom-built sound systems with meticulously crafted drinks (free from unnecessary sugar and artificial additives), Alex opened the Behind This Wall bar in Hackney Central in 2016. This small, intimate bar quickly became a favourite spot for those in the know, offering a unique space for people to enjoy expertly made cocktails and a transportive musical experience.
Aligned with the bar’s ethos, Behind This Wall expanded into event services through 411 Bars. This arm of the business provides drinks and bar services for London-based events, focusing on quality, sustainability, and minimal waste. From ethically sourced ingredients to bespoke bar designs, we create tailored experiences that prioritise craftsmanship and environmental responsibility.
Now, we’re taking our commitment to quality and innovation a step further with the launch of SONIC TONICS—a premium range of bottled tonic drinks engineered to shift your mood. These carefully crafted tonics blend natural ingredients with a focus on wellness, continuing our mission to elevate the drinking experience while maintaining our core values of sustainability and minimal waste.
