BRAC University Chess Club (BUCHC)

In the beginning there wasn’t any chess club in BRAC University. Chess was part of BRACU Indoor Games Club. The thought of establishing a CHESS Club came in Residential Semester from a lecturer of BIL, MD. Shams Ud Duha. In Residential Semester 37, a new RS activity was introduced- CHESS Activity. Considering the extremely good participation and great passion about CHESS from the students, MD. Shams Ud Duha thought of establishing a CHESS Club in BRAC University. Through the immense support from our Honorable Director of BIL (BRAC Institute of Languages) Lady Syeda Sarwat Abed and Honorable Vice Chancellor Prof. Syed Saad Andaleeb and as MD. Shams Ud Duha as our club Advisor, BRAC University CHESS Club started its journey on 21st May, 2015 through a Grand Orientation Program with the attendance of the Director of BIL, Vice Chancellor, Director of CHESS Federation, Grand Master Niaz Murshed, Chairman and Faculties of different departments of BRAC University. Currently, our BUCHC is one of the leading Chess Club among all Universities in Bangladesh with a 1st Runners-up (2017) title, a 2nd Runners-up (2018) title, a Championship (2020) title and a 1st Runners-up (2021) title in Inter-University Chess Championship. BUCHC has also been titled #1 among all Asian Universities (2021) in ChessUni WCLeague Team Battle. Our activities stretch from Weekly Chess Practice Sessions involving club members and any interested university student or personnel to instigating underprivileged children with the beauty of Chess.
