New Normal of Volatility – We see that a long-term secular push and pull dynamic in financial markets between (1) major deflation catalysts of debt & demographics and (2) unprecedented central bank and government fiscal activity will result in a very volatile environment. As major markets around the world have already been overrun by deflation, we continue to seek pockets of inflationary strength and anticipate new trend developments where we can effectively focus capital.
Shift-back from Passive to Active Fund Management – We believe the non-consensus view that the biggest “Pain Point” for the Filipino Investor during this period will be the “Buy & Hold” strategy for big caps or long Index Fund. This is a strategy that has become a pain point since 2015, and we believe that it will only get worse this decade due to global macro factors. We leverage on our decade-long experience of generally outperforming the benchmark for the majority of those years. Given this, we therefore believe that we have the right skill set, for the kind of narrow and volatile environment we anticipate for this decade.
