About Bumi NGO

BUMI, meaning “LIFE” in the Luba language, is a humanitarian and development NGO founded in 1985 in the Democratic Republic of the Congo by Therese Ilunga, Lucien Moser, and friends in the hope of responding to public health problems, underdevelopment, poverty, and providing for the protection and education of youth and children in difficult situations (street children, abandoned children, children accused of sorcery, orphans). To be born in the Congo is to come into existence on the most fertile territory on the planet. In a country where there are endless possibilities of development. And still… Our country is one of the poorest in the world, the education level is low, and a large part of the population does not have access to basic health care. In view of this, BUMI chose to educate and protect children in need. Our mission? Raise them in the way they deserve to be raised, in a setting worthy of their childhood, and foster their manual, intellectual, and artistic skills by instilling in them a taste for autonomy and independence. That way, they will become true citizens, able to propel their country onto the road to development.
