The Kannur Kendra of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan was inaugurated by Mr. Justice V.S. Malimath, former Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court, in 1986. The Kendra started the Kindergarten classes the same year.The School is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi and has classes from L.K.G to Std XII. It prepares students for the All India Secondary School Examination (Std XII).The School’s first batch appeared for the All India Secondary School Examination in 1995. It was in 1997, that the first batch appeared for the All India Senior School Certificate Examination.The School has been maintaining high standards in both the examinations. Founded in 1938 by DR. K.M. Munshi, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan is today an all India intellectual, cultural and educational movement dedicated to the twin task of interpreting the age old yet ageless message of our country and of integrating our varied and vibrant culture with the changing needs of the present day world. During the seven decades of its life, the Bhavan has come to be recognized as a symbol of India’s glorious past and as a comprehensive national institution with an international outlook touching all segments of life and enriching all spheres of activity. Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan conducts classes from Kindergarten to Post-graduate research and imparts education in subjects ranging from Carnatic music to Computers, from Sanskrit to Business Management and from Yoga to Journalism. This is being accomplished through its centres spread all over the country and abroad, through its constituent institutions, through its various publications; through cultural and educational programmes it conducts from time to time and above all, through personal discussions and dialogues. The Bhavans has expanded vastly in its activities and today it has more than 118 centres and 361 educational institutions spread all over India and seven overseas centres. The number of students are over three-hundred thousand. The Bhavans serves as a bridge between the East and West, between the past and the present, and between science and spirituality. This is a totally non-denominational institution representing the composite culture of India.
