Hello, we are C.R.E.A.M. Bakery. Cream is a registered social enterprise and we hope to empower young people with autism through work experience, training and employment.
Over 700,000 in the UK have autism, and 85% of those are unemployed. Of that 85%, 61% are desperate to work. Its clear that finding employment is a major challenge for people with autism and this effects them not only financially, but also mentally.
Our vision at Cream is to create opportunities for young people with autism to access work experience, training and employment at our bakery. Working with local special needs schools and colleges, we will work with the person with autism, their carers and teachers to ensure we provide a supportive environment, addressing every individuals strengths and weaknesses. We want to set people up to succeed!
We appreciate some young people with autism won’t be suited to coming into the bakery due to the complexity of their needs, so we plan on delivering a modified work placement experience in schools. In the comfort of the familiar surroundings we can teach them some baking skills whilst also working on softer skills such as listening and communication. This will provide confidence and self esteem.
We will fund this by selling our baked goods through our website, at farmers markets and fairs, and to businesses via wholesale, although eventually we would love to have a retail bakery/cafe so we can train and employ people with autism in hospitality positions too. All profits will be reinvested back into the business, so we can help as many people as possible.
With your help we can offer young people with autism employment, training and most importantly increased self confidence and HOPE for the future, which we think is something everyone deserves.
