La Caisse Auxiliaire d'Assurance Maladie-Invalidité (CAAMI) est une institution publique de sécurité sociale. Elle assume toutes les prestations de l'assurance obligatoire soins de santé et indemnités, tout comme les mutuelles, mais dans le cadre d'un statut public.
Le statut public de la CAAMI signifie qu'elle accueille toute personne qui fait appel à ses services, quel que soit le profil médical, économique, culturel ou philosophique de l'assuré, applique le principe de l'inscription gratuite, ne se charge que de l'assurance obligatoire.
Depuis le 1er mai 2017, la CAAMI a repris partiellement les missions de l’Institut National des Invalides de Guerre, Anciens combattants et Victimes de guerre (INIG). Les remboursement des soins de santé et d’action sociale, ainsi que les services aux ressortissants de l'INIG est une tache de la CAAMI.
De Hulpkas voor Ziekte- en Invaliditeitsverzekering (HZIV) is een openbare instelling van sociale zekerheid. Ze neemt alle prestaties op zich inzake de verplichte verzekering voor geneeskundige verzorging en uitkeringen, net zoals de ziekenfondsen, maar onder een publiek statuut.
Het publieke statuut van de HZIV impliceert dat ze iedereen verwelkomt die een beroep doet op haar diensten, ongeacht het medisch, economisch, cultureel of filosofisch profiel van de verzekerde, het principe van gratis inschrijving moet toepassen, uitsluitend het systeem van de verplichte verzekering toepast.
Sinds 1 mei 2017 heeft de HZIV de opdrachten van het Nationaal Instituut voor Oorlogsinvaliden, Oud-strijders en Oorlogsslachtoffers (NIOOO) gedeeltelijk overgenomen.
De terugbetaling van de medische kosten, de sociale actie en de daarbij horende dienstverlening aan de rechthebbenden van het NIOOO is voortaan ook een taak van de HZIV.
