As Canadian practitioners, we face a unique set of challenges. Having a socialized medical system, our individual fee-for-service dental practices operate independently of the Canadian medical model. Physicians prescribe CPAP, and though short-term therapy can be very successful, non-compliance creates a large percentage of patients who have no medically recognized form of alternative treatment. The CACSDD has been formed to address this challenge.
Our unique needs demand guidelines created by and for Canadian practitioners. The CACSDD's vision is to build an all-inclusive, interdisciplinary Canadian healthcare team dedicated to providing an efficient and effective treatment protocol of sleep breathing disorders. Our mission is to further advance the field of Dental Sleep Medicine in Canada by setting made-in-Canada guidelines for interdisciplinary collaboration between dentist and physician.
