The Pan-Hellenic Animal Welfare Federation unites forces with the Open Wing Alliance and The Humane League with the aim of eliminating the use of cages in egg production in Greece. It informs consumers of the horrifying conditions prevailing in the production of cage-eggs and of the brutality the hens suffer in this type of farming, asking stores, companies, and businesses to commit themselves to stop buying such type of eggs. The cage-free movement began in the US and is spreading rapidly across Europe, leading to more and more companies renouncing cage-eggs. It expresses the growing consumer concern about animal husbandry conditions and is reflected in the demand for products derived from animals that are not being given antibiotics, are raised outdoors, under healthy and humane conditions, as well as in the search for alternative food models.
