Cardiovascular disease is the number one killer in the world. In the US alone 500,000 – 700,000 people per year will be diagnosed with progressive heart failure. Progressive heart failure leads to death unless that patient receives a transplanted natural donor heart, is assisted with a Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) or implanted with an Artificial Heart Replacement (AHR).
In the past year alone, 2,400 donor transplants were performed in the United States, with the remaining patients who needed a heart transplant succumbing to the disease before a donor becoming available.
California Cardiac Solutions (CCS) was founded to develop a disruptive technology to treat heart failure. We are focused on developing the most innovative and dual redundant implantable artificial heart for adults.
Our aim is…
1 – To develop and produce a four chamber, redundant/twin pump AHR
2 – To develop and produce a dual micro-controller and dual battery system with inductive charging capability to control and monitor all functions of the AHR.
The Freedom Heart is an artificial heart that includes a housing within a quartlet of turbine pump segments that provide a redundancy to enhance the overall safety and viability for the patient. A controller is powered by a rechargeable battery to apply appropriate drive signals to the motor drives of the turbine pump segments.
