Le Shell Eco-marathon permet aux étudiants du monde entier de concevoir, construire et faire concourir les véhicules les plus performants possibles en matière d’efficacité énergétique.
La performance est évaluée en fonction de la consommation d’énergie durant la compétition. Le résultat obtenu est ensuite extrapolé pour obtenir la distance qui serait parcourue avec 1 litre d’essence ou 1kWh. Dans chaque catégorie, l’équipe gagnante est celle qui a développé le véhicule ayant la meilleure performance énergétique par équivalence
