About CAMARADES

The Collaborative Approach to Meta Analysis and Review of Animal Experimental Studies (CAMARADES) research group was founded in 2004 by Malcolm Macleod and David Howells, aiming to address translational failures in preclinical stroke research using systematic review and meta-analysis. Since then, the CAMARADES have broadened their scope to other disease models such as neuropathic pain and Alzheimer's disease. The CAMARADES helped pioneer the field of preclinical systematic review, and in addition to carrying out their own research, provide a supportive framework for other research groups performing systematic review. We aim to: i) Improve the validity of preclinical research ii) Increase the value of preclinical research iii) Improve translation from preclinical research to the clinic In pursuit of these aims we: i) Conduct meta-research, including systematic reviews and meta-analyses, to investigate experimental validity across different preclinical research domains ii) Develop guidance and providing methodological support for systematic review and meta-analysis of preclinical data. iii) Continue to develop our own systematic review platform, specifically designed for preclinical systematic reviews. iv) Develop new automation tools to assist systematic reviews and meta-analyses v) Promote the sharing of data and data analysis tools.
