Between the forest and the vineyard in the Montmell
Pepe Raventós passion for recovering the landscape and old high mountain vineyards in the heart of the Penedès led him to discover Can Sumoi. An integrated and abandoned estate, dating back to 1645, at 600 m above sea level with 20ha of vineyard of more than 50-year-old planted with Montònega and Sumoll and 380ha of forest; a main winery and three late seventeenth century farmhouses where wine used to be made.
Can Sumoi wines were born in 2017 vines were recovered elaborating high-altitude wines. All of them are organic and made with the minimum intervention possible in all viticulture and winemaking processes without any oenological additives added during vinification.
Is an example of landscape recovery, of wine culture and that agriculture is the most natural way of protecting the forest. Can Sumoi wants to inspire as well. We want to be authentic and responsible. We are protecting the biodiversity of the 400 ha of forest on the estate; and helping to recover other green lungs around the world. Also we are working with associations and foundations to help the environment.
