Canopy

Canopy was established in 2016 (originally named Biodiverse Carbon) to develop verified carbon credits from Greening Australia’s reforestation programs. Canopy is now one of the largest producers of carbon credits in Australia under the environmental planting methodology, and is expanding into emerging environmental credit markets like water quality and biodiversity. We believe a market-based approach can drive a level of investment in ecosystem restoration well beyond what’s been possible through traditional government and philanthropy funding models. Canopy supports business, government and private investors to take action on the dual crises of climate change and biodiversity loss by offering high impact nature-based solutions. We focus on restoring biodiversity, improving water quality and sequestering carbon through science-led projects that rebuild nature at a landscape scale. These scaled up nature-positive solutions simultaneously help vulnerable species, provide a new income stream for landholders and Traditional Owners, employ local contractors, and create long-term protection for restored sites. Canopy is a company of Greening Australia. The two organisations work closely together to develop projects that produce high integrity environmental credits and create meaningful change for communities, economies and nature.
