As a ‘Civic Society’ and member of the national Civic Voice movement the society works through volunteers to deliver a wide range of events, projects, campaigns, talks, research and awards which benefit the city and the people of Canterbury and surrounding villages.
We work in collaboration with partner organisations who share our ethos as well as community/voluntary groups, other civic/statutory bodies, businesses, education sectors, Canterbury City Council (CCC), Kent County Council (KCC), resident associations and many other groups who care about the quality of life in and around the city.
The work of The Canterbury Society is led by an elected committee and delivered by a number of ‘working groups’. We are strictly non-political and we rely on membership subscriptions, sponsorship, donations and grants to fund all our work.
The Canterbury Society was revived in 2009 and registered as Charity No: 1160588
