CYSM Ltd. is the holding company for Canterbury's local Community and Student Radio (CSRfm) which launched on 15th January 2007. CSRfm has a five-year Community FM licence awarded by Ofcom and broadcasts on 97.4FM across the entire city of Canterbury.
CSRfm provides students with the opportunity to make their voice heard in the city whilst ensuring there is a fresh sounding radio station that caters precisely for the needs of young students and individuals in the area. The station has an educational focus, allowing you to use the station as a way of learning about what other schools and colleges are up to in the area and also as a way of advertising your schools events, success and achievements. Along with this the station's focus is to broadcast 35% speech and 65% music output.
The station broadcasts from 2 studios, one housed in The Media Centre at the University of Kent, and one on the North Holmes Road campus of Canterbury Christ Church University with state of the art equipment linking the two studios. Providing you’re interested in music, writing, performing or are just really excited by the idea of being involved in a radio station then the opportunity is there for you to gain key skills and have a fantastic experience in a volunteer-run business.
Whilst the the station is funded by the University of Kent, Canterbury Christ Church University (and their respective students' unions) CSRfm is not a University/Student Radio Station. The focus of the project is on the wider impact and involvement of the entire community in Canterbury. Furthermore, CSRfm is independent from a specific institution as it falls under the independent company umbrella of Canterbury Youth and Student Media Ltd, a holding company limited by guarantee which was set up to govern CSRfm.
