Barbisio established in Sagliano Micca in 1862. In 1897 the master craftsmen unite together in the Anonima Cooperativa Cappellai Sagliano Micca which will eventually turn into the Anonima Cooperativa Cervo in 1934 and, lastly, Cappellificio Cervo Srl in 1963. The Company today holds the Barbisio, Cervo and Bantam brands and exports its collections to Europe, the US and Japan yet still remaining a cornerstone in the local Biella economy. Felt is at the core of Barbisio’s attention. It is produced directly in the factory, using original machineries streamlined in the course of time in order to meet the new requests of an increasingly refined production. Felt is a live material: its fibers react to heat and humidity and, if treated by expert hands, can become hats. Expertise in making this material flexible, gained in over a century of commitment, allows today the Maison to combine and experiment blends with other materials, such as Cuenca o Toquilla straw, cotton, jersey, classic cashmere and wool, country knitwear and biologic wools. The hats, exclusively hand made and shaped on the original wooden hat blocks, remain the expression and the secret of the Barbisio success through the years. Barbisio’s new objective and commitment today is to express the nobility of rabbit and beaver felts and interpret materials in order to realize unique hats and fabric flat caps through innovative manufacturing procedures and amaze through excellence and research. Cervo by Barbisio is the casual and underground line of the brand in which modernity and innovation always result in a refined and original look. It skillfully merges a contemporary and vintage style by mixing together the quality of hand manufacturing which make the wool felts easily mishandled or be simply stored inside a pocket or handbag.
