ZERO CARBON AND NET ZERO BUILDER & ZERO CARBON COMMUNITY DEVELOPER Carbon Busters®, founded in 1992, specializes in increasing the end-use efficiency and decreasing the environmental impact of communities and buildings. We achieve this through a multi-disciplinary approach that integrates zero carbon design, carbon accounting, education, renewable energy, net zero, PassivHaus, LEED® and advanced green building practices. Carbon Busters is developing net zero, zero carbon PassivHaus homes and buildings in the Edmonton area and across Alberta, including Carbon Busters' zero carbon village in the Edmonton area. Two of Carbon Busters' principals are the founding directors of C-Returns (www.creturns.com), a non-profit that provides energy and carbon assessments and green retrofits for Alberta homes and communities, and HubScale (www.hubscale.com), building sustainable communities at a human scale, facilitating the energy transition of municipalities towards energy independence. Carbon Busters created a Green Guide for Businesses for the Greening the Avenue Foundation. Carbon Busters was selected as part of a finalist team for the design of the energy plus Olympic and Paralympic Village and the PassivHaus Media Village for the proposed 2018 Winter Olympics in Munich. Carbon Busters works with municipalities in North America and Europe to reduce their carbon footprint and costs, facilitating programs for energy independence from fossil fuels. Savings generated to date exceed $26.7 million in utility savings, and over 78 million kg CO2e in greenhouse gas emission reductions in their self-funding programs alone. Carbon Busters research led to the publication of “The Carbon Buster’s Home Energy Handbook” and “The Carbon Charter”, both available at New Society Publishing (www.newsociety.com).
