Carbon Roots

Carbon Roots is a nonprofit environmental organization founded in July 2024 that develops carbon sink gardens throughout Monmouth County, New Jersey. Our mission is to combat climate change through practical, community-based solutions that maximize carbon sequestration while creating beautiful green spaces. Founded by a high school student with a passion for environmental action, Carbon Roots demonstrates that meaningful climate initiatives can start at any age. We partner with municipalities, schools, and community organizations to design and implement specialized gardens that maximize carbon absorption. Our science-based approach combines environmental impact with community beautification. Since our founding, we've raised over $1,400 in funding, planted more than 150 carbon-absorbing plants, and developed partnerships with multiple Monmouth County townships. We've created a comprehensive guidebook on carbon sink gardening and mobilized volunteers across multiple age groups. We provide consultation, educational resources, and implementation support to help communities establish their own carbon sink gardens. Our vision is to create a network of carbon-absorbing gardens across New Jersey and beyond, collectively making a significant impact on greenhouse gas reduction while inspiring the next generation of environmental leaders.
