I spent over 30 years serving in the British Army, making great friends, and learning through life skills from the very best. I worked my way up the career ladder, eventually delivering key projects and management in Asia, North America and Europe.
My favourite job? Operating a remote GPS tracking station on Ascension Island. With an equatorial climate, autonomous role and endless sporting opportunities, it was like being an Operations Director, living in a village, and being isolated from the rest of humanity by the ocean. You soon learn to focus on people and business objectives.
During my own military service, I learnt to respect the established values of determination, honesty, resilience, resourcefulness, integrity, clear communication, teamwork and an ability to get the job done that goes with working in really challenging situations.
Unfortunately, some personnel have been adversely affected by their previous experiences and desperately need a helping hand to return to some form of normality and contentment. This is a situation regularly seen within all walks of life but especially ex-military personnel, police, teachers, fire service and health staff. The day to day stresses can take there toll on those that are so focused on helping others.
