About CaribGREEN Project

The CaribGREEN project is a project financed by AFD to the tune of one million euros for the launch phase. It has a fundamental objective of promoting diverse, healthy, and sustainable agriculture within the Caribbean. This initiative aims to enhance food security while preparing the region to address new threats and global pressures on food systems. To achieve these goals, the project focuses on adopting agroecological practices and integrated health management within production systems capable of withstanding global changes. A central and innovative element of the project lies in its promotion of cooperation between the livestock, crop cultivation, public health, and agroecology sectors at the regional level. Consequently, CaribGREEN aspires to contribute to the emergence of a bioeconomy that generates sustainable jobs at all stages of agricultural value chains and related sectors such as tourism. This approach aligns with the sustainable development and regional integration goals specific to the Caribbean region. The project addresses crucial issues for the region, such as preserving biodiversity in agricultural systems and protecting the environment from human pressures and diseases. To achieve these ambitious goals, interdisciplinary and diverse collaboration from multiple sectors is necessary. The project establishes a strong partnership and adopts an interdisciplinary approach. CaribGREEN emphasizes sustainable agricultural practices and their impact on the environment, in harmony with regional initiatives for plant and animal health.
