Caring Cooks

We are all aware of the global epidemic of childhood obesity, tooth decay and chronic diseases like cancer, which we urgently need to address, not only to give our children a fighting chance in life but also to ensure that, particularly in Jersey, we have a healthy community in the future. Our mission is to get children cooking and eating healthy and nutritious food, in childhood and beyond, by educating, inspiring and supporting them, and their families. We teach over 1,000 children each year on our Let's Get Cooking Programme to learn essential life skills and basic nutrition. These skills will allow them to cook for themselves and their families, in the future, and begin to reverse this trend of highly processed diets, which we are seeing more of in our poor lives. Our goal is to teach all 5,500 children in Jersey on this amazing programme. We also deliver a Weekly Meal Service to 00's of families each year who are experiencing crisis, either financial or health, and it allows them to sit down once a week to a home cooked meal, and just be a family. But there is more work to be done. Did you know in Jersey there are no school meals in our States primary schools, meaning over 5,000 children will go to school each day with a lunchbox, many of which may not meet nutritional standards? There are also potentially up to 1,000 children each day, who may never eat a hot meal. Not only is this not giving them the nourishment they need each day to learn and play, but it's also depriving them of the enjoyment of tasty and nutritious food, and the simple joy of eating. We aim to change this in 2019 and extend our work further - because the health of our Islands children, is everyone's business. Could you help us secure the health of your future workforce?
