Carl's Custom Baits started like a lot of other entrepreneurial pursuits. While sitting his garage in 2018, Tom Rydeen wondered what a fisherman would have to do to have the greatest soft plastic bait. After experimenting a bit, and having friends and family try their hand at putting in their orders, Tom found that he really enjoyed creating custom plastic lures and helping people obtain their dream bait.
Through this fun project, a concept was born. Giving the option to fishermen and women everywhere to custom create plastic bait based off a series of different features – color, glitter (or not), flavor and scent – online with the click of a button.
Tom quickly went to work. Based off popular requests, he made small batches of bait and offered them for immediate sale while still offering the ability to custom create plastic bait with a little more wait time.
He named the business Carl's Custom Baits in memory of his younger brother, who loved to fish and would have loved this idea.
