TREATING MEMORY LOSS: A NOVEL APPROACH
ABOUT US: Casp-Aid is a biotechnology startup company based in Montreal. We are aiming to revolutionize the treatment of memory loss in aging populations through a novel approach based on over 30 years of research.
PROBLEM: Do I have Alzheimer Disease? It’s a scary question but the concern is valid. Efficient treatments against cognitive decline or impairment are not available. Cognitive impairment affects 1 in 9 adults over 45 years of age and 12-18% of adults 60 years and older. Ten to 15% of cognitively impaired individuals convert to dementia yearly. Cost to Canadian taxpayers is $10 billion/year.
SOLUTION: Casp-Aid has identified three molecular targets that can be harnessed to prevent neuronal degeneration in the areas of the brain implicated in memory. A shelved drug inhibitor to one of these targets, delays, reverses or significantly improves memory in a mouse model of Alzheimer disease (pre-clinical research). This never commercialized before drug has previously been used in FDA-approved drug trials and is thus an excellent first candidate for human clinical trials.
PATENTS: Casp-Aid has obtained patent rights for the use of this drug against cognitive impairment from the USTPO in November 2021 and is seeking patent protection of this idea in 6 additional countries.
MARKET & BUSINESS MODEL: The global Alzheimer's therapeutics market size was valued at USD 4.04 billion in 2021 and is expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 16.2% from 2022 to 2030.
